Impulse launches new Intel Atom D525 Fanless PC

Impulse is pleased to announce the launch of the TANK-101B Fanless Embedded PC from IEI Technology. The TANK-101B features the Intel Atom D525 processor and utilises the Intel ICH8M system chipset. The unit also includes 1GB built-in DDR3 memory with optional expansion up to 2GB. The design of the TANK-101B allows the processor to be passively cooled and handle temperatures from -20C to +70C.

The TANK-101B I/O includes 4 x USB2.0, 3 x RS-232, 1 x isolated RS-232/422/485 and 2 x isolated CAN-bus. Storage includes 1 x 2.5” SATA hard drive bay and a CompactFlash socket. Networking consists of 2 x Gigabit Ethernet and optional 802.11 b/g/n WiFi.

Sealevel 8004e and 8012 available at Impulse

Impulse is pleased to announce the availability of the 8004e and 8012 digital I/O interface PCI Express cards from Sealevel Systems. The two digital I/O interface cards offer isolated input that protects the pc and other sensitive equipment from voltage spikes and ground loop currents that are commonly found in an industrial environment.  The outputs provide high quality, long life, low current (10 Watt maximum) and dry contact switch closures. Reed relays are well suited for low current applications. The relays are normally open, and will close when energized.

What Are: Capacitive Touchscreens

A capacitive touch screen is a panel of glass coated with a special transparent conductor such as Indium Tin Oxide. A small voltage is applied to the layer resulting in an electrostatic charge. Because the human body an electrical conductor, touching the screen results in a distortion of the panel’s electrostatic charge.

When a finger touches the surface, a capacitance is formed at that location. Sensors located at each corner of the panel will measure the frequency variations to calculate the coordinates of the user’s touch. The coordinates are then fed back to the controller which translates this information in to something that allows software on an operating system to understand.

Capacitive touch screens have no moving parts and are impervious to grease, dirt and water making them an ideal interface for outdoor Kiosks.

Advantech’s Industrial Ethernet Switches offer a variety of features such as high speed Gigabit Ethernet, Copper and Fibre Optic interfaces and Power over Ethernet. In addition, Advantech’s Industrial Ethernet Switches feature X-Ring technology allowing for fast and prompt recovery time (<10 ms) increasing the reliability and speed of network infrastructures.

Featuring a compact DIN-rail mount package, these switches are ideal where panel space is limited. Ruggedised for industrial applications, they feature dual 12 to 48 VDC power inputs with fault relay output, 4,000 VDC Ethernet ESD protection, power line surge (EFT) protection of 3,000 VDC, and feature an industrial operating temperature range. Product overview - GOT-812 - 12.1" IP66 Rated Industrial Fanless Panel PC

Impulse are pleased to announce the launch of the GOT-812 from Axiomtek. The GOT-812 is specially designed for heavy-duty and outdoor applications. This is reflected by its stainless steel enclosure, which is designed to protect the entire system from outside elements such as water, powder and dust. Through testing and certification the GOT-812 has been awarded an IP66 rating, meaning the unit is protected from dust entering the system as well as high pressure water jets, thus allowing the unit to be washed. In addition to the IP66 rating, the GOT-812 has also been awarded the IEC60945 certification, meaning it is protected from salt mist and is marine grade approved.

TANK-GM45A Review

Impulse attended the International Armoured Vehicle Conference 2011 last week and we thought this is an opportune time to pen a small article introducing the recently released TANK-GM45A Embedded PC from IEI Technology.

Impulse are very pleased to welcome the next offering in a long line of innovative solutions from Industrial powerhouse IEI. Despite being driven by a high performance Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, IEI have engineered a completely fanless solution with an extended temperature range from –20°C to +70°C often essential in industrial computing applications.

The TANK-GM45A’s rugged aluminium chassis essentially acts as a giant heatsink, dissipating the heat away from the processor board using a thermal pad attached to the precision machined fins, which increase the cooling surface area.
